FUTURE LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Abdo Korayem
Abdo is a graduate student at Michigan State University majoring in Mechanical/Civil Engineering. He currently serves as President of the MSU SPE Student Chapter.
For as long as he can remember, Abdo has always had an urge to leave a positive impact on the communities that he has interacted with.
His Masters researched was focused on the behavior of plastics and polymers exposed to harsh environmental conditions. His current PhD research is focused on composites and the role they play in having a positive impact on our environment.
WOMEN TO WATCH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Tanisha Francis
Tanisha is a junior at Kettering University majoring in Computer Engineering. She is responsible for re-activating the SPE student chapter at Kettering and currently serves at the President.
Tanisha was an intern at Detroit Manufacturing Systems where she supported injection molding of center consoles and instrument panels for the Ford Motor Company.
She has developed processes to ensure that bio-based resins are returned to the environment and for synthetic resins to be repurposed for philanthropic projects e.g. injection molded toys for children’s homes.
PETER GRELLE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Carter Doran
Carter is a senior at Ferris State University majoring in Plastics and Polymer Engineering Technology. He is an active member of the SPE student chapter at Ferris State University.
Carter has gained industrial experience working at Agape Plastics as an intern in the summer of 2021 and throughout the semester as his schedule allowed.
He also had another valuable internship experience at iMFLUX in the summer of 2022. Carter worked on various projects including iMFLUX process development and optimization, DOEs, metrology, troubleshooting and standardization.
DR. REGINALD BELL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Kimberly Betty
Kimberly is a junior at Kettering University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Kimberly has a firm resolve to make a difference at Kettering University, on campus and in the community regarding STEM education and automotive.
Kimberly is very entrenched in the student culture of gaining leadership experiences. She is president of the International Club, Diversity representative for Kettering Student Government and was recently appointed the chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Kettering section by corporate (ASME). She was instrumental in reactivating the Kettering Chapter of ASME.
She is also a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Black Student Union (BSU).
DELTA POLYMERS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Alex Kepros
Alex is a graduate student at Michigan State University majoring in Civil Engineering. He currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the MSU SPE Student Chapter.
Alex has applied his passion for designing and developing buildings to evaluate the structural design of composite materials and how dependent all industries are on the innovation of thermoplastic materials.
His current PhD research is focused on developing “green” composites that have properties equivalent to their carbon fiber counterparts at a fraction of the cost while being significantly more sustainable.
